The following is a report on the 2006 Day School and Opening of Season Dance
held on Saturday 30th September
By Heather Jamieson
********************************************
Our 2006 Day School was a very successful and eventful day. The teachers were;
Catherine Livesey from Leeds who added a Highland flavour into her afternoon programme,
David Queen from Preston who took on the role of a teachers class in the morning, and
Atsuko Clement from Edinburgh who taught, for the first time at our day school, 'Ladies
Step Dance' which was well attended and was found to be interesting and different.
We had an increase in numbers this year and the feedback that has been received by the
committee is that it had a happy, social and enjoyable atmosphere, with the standard of
teaching being excellent. Once again the musicians were of a very high standard adding
to the overall enjoyment. They were Andrew Lyon from Derbyshire playing piano for both
the morning and afternoon classes; Phill Jones from Sheffield on accordian, and Robert
Whitehead from Northumberland on accordian, who also led his four piece band for the
evening dance.
The Opening of Season dance was well attended with a full hall, which gave a wonderful
atmosphere with the lively sound of the Danelaw Scottish Dance Band. We invited Atsuko
Clement to perform a demonstration of two 'Ladies Step Dances' for us during the evening,
which was a great treat.
The next Annual Day School date has already been set (see above), and if you would like
more information or tickets, etc then contact either myself or Helen Freer. We look
forward to seeing new and old faces alike at this event.
